Who is GuidingLight.com?
For starters, "we" is essentially just me, K. Keith Karr. I am the sole designer, developer and maintainer of the website, GuidingLight.com.
About Me
Maintaining this site is really just a part-time preoccupation for me. I suppose I do it more out of sheer obsession than anything else. The genesis of my obsession was a single small personal site in 1994. As time went by, I found the complex process of manually coding and designing rather addictive and started looking for outlets to apply everthing I had learned. Through the years, I developed dozens of independent sites on topics ranging from art to zoology. I discovered, however, that as my free time decreased, it became increasingly tedious to manually update these sites with fresh new content. I therefore decided to focus my efforts on sifting, consolidating and reorganizing the best information that was already available on the web. This afforded me much more time for doing what I really love - tinkering with the underlying code.About This Site
It is my goal to keep this site informative, on-topic and family-friendly. I employ numerous filters of my own design to weed out most of the irrelevant and inappropriate information. I don't claim that my programming skills are perfect, however. Some weirdness sometimes slips through the cracks and probably always will. This site is rather large, it's content is constantly evolving and my time is very limited. I can't possibly manually edit every page to ensure that it always contains completely appropriate material. So browse at your own risk. And if you don't like something you find, please don't take offense. It is very probably unintential and I am perpetually working to make sure fewer such accidents occur.Contact Information

Link Requests: I'm sorry, but I do not add link requests. I previously used a reciprocal link system on this site but it was constantly being besieged by spammers of the worst variety. I was finally forced to make the difficult decision to eliminate it entirely or continue to wage a desperate war against the burgeoning hordes of ne'er-do-wells determined to bypass my safeguards. Logic prevailed.
So for now, the best way to get listed on this site (and thousands of others) is to submit your site to the Open Directory Project under it's most appropriate category. When your site is listed in the ODP it will be listed here as well.Factual Errors: The most common complaints I receive are about an inaccuracy within an incoming data feed. There is practically nothing I can do about the accuracy of information returned from the various data sources I use. Other than automatically scanning and filtering out certain 'bad' words or phrases, the gist of the content is quite beyond my control. If you believe there is a factual error in one of these feeds,
please do not contact me . Instead, contact the site from which this information originated (each source is properly attributed and conveniently linked). Once the correction is posted on the original site, the correction should automatically appear on this site (and all others using the same data).Copyright Concerns: Please bear in mind that short, properly attributed quotes or snippets of 300 words or less do not usually violate copyrights because they are generally considered to be fair use (otherwise search engines would be illegal). There are a few exceptions, of course. So, if there is any section of text on this site which you sincerely believe to violate a copyright, please alert me immediately.
Thumbnail Images: U.S. case law [1] [2] has established that displaying appropriately linked thumbnails of copyrighted images on websites is fair use. So if you want to complain about a copyright being violated by a thumbnail image, please don't - because it's not.
Preventing Indexing: If you are the owner of a website and do not wish for certain portions of your site to be indexed in the first place, please consider using a robots.txt file in your main directory. All of my sources obey the robot exclusion protocol.
Last (but definitely not least): Please be polite when contacting me. I have absolutely zero tolerance for rude or aggressive behavior of any kind. Nothing gets your email address and/or phone number permanently blocked faster than outrageous demands, preposterous allegations, needless threats or general all-around nastiness. If you really want me to change something about this site, just ask nicely. I'm actually a pretty decent guy. I'd appreciated the feedback and would probably be happy to make a reasonable change for you just to be friendly. :-)
